Frontiers Crisis Response

Moroccan Earthquake

Immediately on Saturday, our members started partnering with like-minded groups to deliver food, water, first aid supplies and oil to remote locations. Hikers have been convoying supplies by foot to villages where rubble prevents access by road.

We are now giving attention to shelter building, in partnership with local associations where possible, assessing needs of hundreds of villages and sharing these with aid organisations.

There has been a beautiful, spontaneous coordination of the body of Christ, with local believers and foreigners sharing the love of Jesus with discretion and respect.

Libyan Floods

In eastern Libya, 20,000 deaths are estimated to have occurred after storm Daniel caused widespread floods, with two dams collapsing. In the city of Derna, a quarter of the city simply obliterated. The survivors now face the threat of a disease epidemic.

Libya is divided by brutal civil war, so access is difficult, although Derna’s position on the Mediterranean coast suggests emergency supplies might be delivered by sea.

In both disasters, our local teams are guided by relief and development experts, who help us respond to such crises. For example, those with expertise through providing emergency shelters in other crises are developing similar solutions for collapsed villages in Morocco.

We grieve the loss of so many lives in these recent events and the earthquakes earlier this year in Turkey and Syria. The continued suffering and distress of local people breaks our hearts. But, above all, we mourn that so many men, women and children have perished without knowing the hope to be found in Jesus.

We praise God for amazing testimonies that have already come out of ongoing work following February's earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Please join us in prayer:

  • for God’s wisdom and mercy in our rescue and rehabilitation efforts,

  • for continued good communication among diverse groups of rescue workers, and

  • for both Moroccans and Libyans to experience the compassion of the living God in practical ways, as Christians work among them.

Despite much darkness and despair, may the light and hope of Jesus break through!
